Electrical Apprenticeship Course Code in Australia: UEE30820

On this page

Quick answer: The course code for an electrician apprenticeship in Australia is UEE30820, Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician. New South Wales and Victoria both list it first and still accept older releases such as UEE30811, UEE30807 and UEE30806 for people who trained earlier. The code is national, but each state adds its own licence steps and hours.

How to use the code

  1. Ask the trade school to confirm it delivers UEE30820 and is a registered training organisation.
  2. Make sure the code appears on your apprentice training contract paperwork.
  3. Keep the final Certificate III, not only a statement of results. Victoria will not accept a statement of attainment.
  4. Add your state step: the LEA in Victoria, or the VTRP certificate of proficiency and 12 months of wiring work in NSW.

Practice for the electrician licence exam

This page covers the route into the trade. Licensing is run by each state, so for the exam itself our main page is the Australia electrician exam guide: the assessment format, the licensing authority, the wiring rules and the official links in one place.

The questions are original and follow Energy Safe Victoria’s Licensed Electrician’s Assessment and AS/NZS 3000; other states assess differently, so check your state regulator as well. FAQ

What is UEE30820?

It is the national code for the Certificate III in Electrotechnology Electrician, the trade qualification state regulators use as the base for an electrician licence.

Is my old UEE30811 certificate still valid for a licence?

NSW and Victoria both list UEE30811 among accepted qualifications. NSW notes some older units may no longer be offered, so check before starting recognition of prior learning.

Does the course code change by state?

No. The code is national. What changes is the extra assessment and experience each state asks for before it issues the licence.
