Electrician Apprentice Salary in Canada: What the Official Data Shows

On this page

Quick answer: Job Bank does not publish a separate apprentice wage, but it lists electricians (NOC 72200) at C$20.00 an hour on the low end, C$35.00 median and C$48.00 high across Canada. Treat the low figure as a rough marker for early-career pay, not as an apprentice rate. The exact apprentice rate comes from your province’s rules and your employer’s terms, so ask for both in writing.

How to work out your own apprentice pay

  1. Ask your provincial apprenticeship authority whether it sets apprentice wage rates for the trade.
  2. Ask each employer for the starting rate and the raise at each level, in writing.
  3. Compare against the low figure for your province in the table above.
  4. Plan the length: 7,200 hours in most provinces, 9,000 in Ontario, 9,800 in Quebec, per the Ellis Chart.
  5. Budget for school periods; technical training runs 28 to 40 weeks in total depending on the province.
