Electrician Fundamentals: Learn, Practice & Mock Exam

Engineer Tsai, the canonical blue-lightning-forelock character, representing the Global Electrician Career Platform

This page is a free, self-paced Learn → Practice → Mock Exam path through electrical fundamentals: Ohm’s Law, power, and series/parallel resistance. Everything here is universal physics — it holds in any country, any electrical code, any licensing system. It does not test, imply, or promise any specific jurisdiction’s certification, licence, or exam content.

Step 1 — Learn: Ohm’s Law and power in plain English

Engineer Tsai’s crash course: every electrical circuit — DC, or simple resistive AC — runs on two relationships. Learn these two and a huge fraction of “electrician math” stops being scary.

  • Ohm’s Law: V = I × R — voltage equals current times resistance. Push more current through the same resistance, and voltage rises; add resistance at the same current, and voltage rises too.
  • Power: P = V × I (also P = I²R = V²/R) — power is how fast energy is being used. All three forms of the power formula always agree with each other for the same circuit.
  • Series circuits (components chained one after another): current is the same everywhere in the chain; total resistance is just R1 + R2 + R3…
  • Parallel circuits (components each bridging the same two points): voltage is the same across every branch; total resistance is found from 1/Rtotal = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + …

That’s the whole crash course. The rest of this page lets you use it, then checks whether it actually stuck.

Step 2 — Practice: solve real numbers

Before the mock exam, try plugging real numbers into the formulas above using Engineer Tsai’s own Ohm’s Law & Power Calculator — enter any two of voltage, current, resistance, or power, and it solves the other two instantly. It’s the same universal-physics tool referenced in several of the mock exam questions below.

Step 3 — Mock exam: 10 questions

10 questions, universal physics only — no jurisdiction, code edition, or licensing-exam content. Answer all 10, then press Submit exam to see your score, a pass/fail result, and a worked explanation for every question.

Electrician Fundamentals Mock Exam

FAQ

Q1. Is this the same as a real electrician licensing exam?

A. No. This mock exam covers universal physics only (Ohm’s Law, power, series/parallel resistance) and makes no claim about any specific country, state, or province’s actual licensing or certification exam content, format, or pass mark.

Q2. What’s the pass mark?

A. 7 out of 10. This is this exam’s own practice threshold, not a real exam’s official pass mark.

Q3. Can I retake it?

A. Yes, as many times as you want — press Reset and try again after reviewing the explanations.
