Practice full sections at real test speed before test day. The electrical training ALLIANCE test gives 46 minutes for 33 algebra questions and 51 minutes for 36 reading questions, which is about 84 to 85 seconds per question, with no calculator. Time one full section at a time, mark the questions you skip, and since there is no penalty for guessing, never leave an answer blank.
How to run a timed practice
- Copy test conditions. Quiet table, pencil, scratch paper and no phone or calculator.
- Use checkpoints. Check where you are at each quarter of the time instead of watching every second.
- Skip and return. If a question takes much longer than its share, mark a guess and come back if time is left.
- Review after. Sort misses by cause: did not know it, misread it, or ran out of time.
The ALLIANCE says the test battery takes about two and a half hours, but advises allowing about three hours at the test center. Practice both timed sections with a short break between them, and follow your program's test-day instructions.
