The algebra part of the electrical training ALLIANCE aptitude test is 33 questions in 46 minutes, and you cannot use a calculator. Start with the free official sample questions, then drill the same kinds of problems by hand: solving simple equations, putting numbers into a formula, spotting equivalent expressions and finishing number patterns. Do your arithmetic on paper every time so test day feels normal.
What the official sample covers
The ALLIANCE sample page calls this a test of “your ability to solve problems using algebra.” Its sample items ask you to evaluate a formula, pick an equivalent expression, extend a number pattern, read what a formula means and match a table to a rule. Use the sample to see the style, then practice more of each type.
A review order for adults who left school years ago
- Arithmetic first. Negative numbers, fractions and order of operations, all by hand.
- One-step and two-step equations. Undo the operations in reverse order.
- Formulas. Put the numbers in, then solve. Formulas such as P = 2L + 2W and V = I × R are good practice.
- Patterns and tables. Find the rule, then check it on every row.
Many programs also ask for a year of high school algebra. San Antonio accepts an Algebra 1 credit or the ALLIANCE Tech Math course, so check your program’s rule before you apply.
