At Houston, Austin and San Antonio JATCs, your interview score sets your rank

Houston Electrical JATC selects apprentices from its ranking list by interview score, and about 10 people apply for each opening. 6 of the 13 Texas apprenticeship programs we checked are IBEW/NECA JATCs, the test-first route; the rest want you hired by a contractor or enrolled first. This kit covers the whole way in.

What you get

  • Module 1, Texas Route Map. A one-page 7-day start plan; 13 apprenticeship programs and 2 training options checked on their own websites: the IBEW/NECA JATCs in Houston, Galveston (Texas City, open year round), North Texas, Austin, San Antonio and Corpus Christi; IEC Texas Gulf Coast, Dallas, Fort Worth, Central Texas and San Antonio; ABC South Texas and ABC Greater Houston/CMEF; plus ABC Southeast Texas and San Jacinto College. Path, test, documents, fees, dates, starting pay, phone and address for each, a who-to-call page for each metro, a Houston 30-day plan, an application tracker, and Step 0: the US$20 TDLR apprentice license.
  • Module 1b, U.S. Application Guide. Compare the application requirements of 49 IBEW and NECA apprenticeship programs, each researched one by one: the aptitude test each program uses (electrical training ALLIANCE or GAN), the minimum score it publishes if it has one, and the documents you need to gather. Includes a 14-day planner for the Personal Experience Form that GAN programs ask for. Helps you prepare applications in Texas or other states.
  • Module 2, Texas Rank Plan. What Texas programs publish about ranking, direct interview and work-hour shortcuts; what other programs reward and what to ask before you spend; a 90-day plan; proof and hours logs.
  • Module 3, Aptitude Test Prep and Practice Bank. A diagnostic with a where-to-start rule, 7 lessons with worked examples, a reading strategy, and 3 full timed simulations in the published format (33 algebra and functions questions in 46 minutes, 36 reading questions in 51 minutes): A starter, B test level, C above test level, each with math and reading scored separately and a score-by-topic table. Module 3c adds Simulations D, E and F. Module 3d adds Simulation G at test level and Simulation H above test level, with 66 new math and 72 new reading questions, plus a score guide for all eight simulations: practice score bands made for this kit, not an official score conversion, and what to study next at each band. In all: 1,366 original math questions (181 in the workbook, 819 in the Practice Bank, 300 in Module 3c, 66 in Module 3d) and 288 reading questions; every math answer shows the steps.
  • Module 4, Interview Prep. The seven points North Texas JATC says it considers, a weak and a strong answer for all 20 interview questions, an 8-question timed mock interview with a second career changer, and a scoring sheet.
  • Module 5, Hire-First Track + spreadsheet. A Houston call list: 29 contractors checked one by one, led by the 10 that name apprentice or helper roles on their own careers pages (checked October 8, 2026); a spreadsheet of all 4,078 electrical contractors with an active Texas license in Harris, Dallas, Bexar, Tarrant, Travis and Nueces counties (from TDLR public data, with the Houston call list marked); phone, walk-in and email scripts, a one-page resume and a recommendation-letter draft.

How every page was checked

  • Every program fact comes from the program’s own website or official PDF, with the source link and the date we checked it printed on the page.
  • Every math answer was solved a second time by an independent solver; every wrong choice comes from a named mistake. All 216 reading questions were answered blind by a separate reviewer before release.
  • We re-check every program page in November 2026, after Houston JATC reopens its application, and send buyers the update free. Updates are free for as long as this edition is sold, and at least through December 31, 2027. Files you download are yours to keep.
  • Program names belong to their owners. Tsai Electro is an independent guide built from each program’s public pages.

Refunds

Ask within 30 days of payment and you get a full refund if you have not downloaded the files. If a file will not open or is clearly not what this page describes, you get a full refund or a working replacement, your choice, even after downloading. Read the refund policy
