Texas Journeyman Exam Reschedule or Cancel: The PSI 2-Day Rule

Updated About 3 min read

Short answer: You can cancel or reschedule your Texas Journeyman exam without losing the fee if PSI receives your notice 2 days before the exam date. For a Monday exam, that means by the previous Saturday. Use the PSI website or call (833) 333-4741; voicemail and email do not count. Miss that window, skip the exam, arrive after the start time or show up without proper ID, and the registration becomes invalid and the $78 fee is forfeited.

Moving the date is the logistics step. Passing both parts is the step that counts. If you are pushing the exam back to get more ready, the Practice Pack gives you 10 full timed two-part mocks at the real format, 59 questions in 130 minutes plus 26 in 110 minutes, scored at 70% by part and by topic, plus 299 step-by-step calculation solutions and code-book navigation aids. US$39, one payment.

The rule is about when PSI receives the notice, not when you decide. Do it on the PSI website or by phone, and keep the confirmation.

What forfeits your fee

The PSI bulletin lists four ways a registration becomes invalid and the fee is forfeited:

  1. You do not cancel or reschedule 2 days ahead.
  2. You do not show up.
  3. You arrive after the start time. Late arrivals are not admitted.
  4. You do not present proper ID.

TDLR’s exam page says the same in short form: missing the exam or arriving late forfeits the exam fee. The fee is $78 for both portions.

Two edge cases worth knowing:

  • ID problems. If you cannot bring the required ID, call PSI at (833) 333-4741 at least 3 weeks before your appointment. Showing up without it and without telling PSI counts as a missed appointment.
  • Site closures. If severe weather or another emergency closes a site, the exam is rescheduled. PSI tries to contact you, and you can check status at (833) 333-4741.

What PSI does not publish

The bulletin does not state a separate rescheduling fee for changes made inside the 2-day window. It only says the fee is forfeited. It also does not describe standby or walk-in testing. If you are inside the window or hoping for a same-week seat, check your PSI account or ask PSI directly before you assume anything.

Also keep the bigger clock in mind. TDLR gives you one year from the date it received your application to meet all requirements, and you may test an unlimited number of times through your eligibility period. A reschedule moves your seat, not that one-year date.

The registration becomes invalid and the $78 exam fee is forfeited. The same applies if you arrive after the start time or do not bring proper ID. You may test an unlimited number of times through your eligibility period, so you can book again.

Is there a fee to reschedule the Texas journeyman exam?

If PSI gets your notice 2 days before the exam, you keep your fee. The bulletin does not state a separate rescheduling fee inside the 2-day window; it says the fee is forfeited. Ask PSI if you are already inside that window.
