How to Use Your Electrician Exam Prep Workbook

A practical starting sequence for readers of the Tsai Electro Texas Journeyman, Texas Master and California General workbooks. You can use this guide without registering or sharing purchase details.

1. Check the book against your exact exam

The Texas Journeyman and Master books use a 2026 NEC reference basis; California General uses 2023 NEC. Follow your current exam provider’s instructions for reference editions, permitted materials, question counts and timing. The workbook’s practice-test structure is not a substitute for that bulletin.

Open the reference-selection guide and official sources.

2. Work one example before reading its explanation

Write what is given, what quantity is requested and the units of the result. Make your own attempt, then compare it with the worked solution. A wrong option can point to a missed condition, an inverted ratio or an omitted factor.

Try a complete public example from each book. These are study examples under the conditions shown, not official exam questions or directions for energized work.

3. Keep one specific error-log entry

For the supplied calculation 175 A × 0.88 × 0.80, the result is 123.2 A. If you stopped at 154 A, record “missed the second factor” and a date to redo that step. Do not treat supplied example factors as universally applicable values.

Open the three free fillable worksheets. Download and save a working copy; your entries are not sent to us. The email series remains inactive, so these links deliver the files directly.

4. Move from individual questions to practice sets

Use the book’s contents and question identifiers to locate the topic you need. On a second attempt, cover the answer and explain the operation aloud or on paper. Use practice mocks to find topics to review; a practice score does not predict an official passing result.

For a shorter supplied-data exercise, take the ten-question Journeyman calculation check. Its worked answers are available without email.

5. Keep the formats and purchases separate

Paperback and Kindle are separate formats and purchases. Kindle display positions can differ from printed pages, so include the chapter and question number when asking about an item. The independent workbooks are not the NEC itself. Website practice packs and memberships are separate purchases unless a specific product explicitly says otherwise.

Report a question that needs checking

Send the book title, format, chapter/question number and the step you think needs review to hello@tsaielectro.com. Do not send passwords, full order records, student lists or customer/worksite identifiers. A question report is not permission to publish your name or use your message as a testimonial.
