Who it is for
Texas licensed electricians exploring an electrical inspector role and studying overlapping NEC topics for ICC E1 or E2. Two questions focus on commercial topics. Use this pack only when your selected exam reference matches NEC 2023.
The free ICC E1 and E2 scope and reference map helps you identify the outline and reference books. This pack adds original practice questions, schematic reading, explanations, and a place to track errors.
Before you pay
- Work through original NEC 2023 lookup and plan-reading exercises, compare your reasoning with the explained answers and use the review log to revisit a weak topic. Follow your selected exam provider’s current reference list when planning your study.
- This PDF is not an exam, certification, qualification, license, employer appointment, or authority to inspect. It includes no instructor, code book, exam registration, or full preparation course.
- Edition: NEC 2023. The free map gives different reference examples by exam and selected code year. NEC 2020 and the full IRC are outside this pack. Confirm your own approved reference edition before buying.
- These focused exercises do not cover every official E1 or E2 topic, and their question counts are not official exam weights.
- All sketches are paper exercises, not construction drawings, repair directions, or field compliance determinations.
Your next study step
After a practice session, use the self-check and retry one weak topic. Explore current membership plans and trial terms for the wider staged learning path. Buying this PDF does not by itself unlock paid member access; eligibility follows the current plan terms.

Try the first project task
A plan review is an evidence chain: scope and adopted sources, current drawings, quantities and calculations, unresolved information, then a decision by the authorized reviewer. Area and volume are different units; a hypothetical allowance is not a code table. A physical clearance cannot be verified from a photograph with no scale. Residential and commercial credentials have different scopes; E1/E2/E3 are credentials, not automatic hiring or mandatory sequential job titles. Additional trades require their own competence and appointment.
Fictional desk drawing set I2. Residential R2 lists12 outlet symbols and8 lighting symbols; schedule total18. R3 revises lighting to10. A commercial C1 balanced load is60kVA at208V line-to-line, PF0.85; use√3=1.732. Separate hypothetical area check:5 conductors×0.050in² versus allowed area0.300in². Volume check:9 already-counted allowances×2.25in³ versus24in³ box volume. Training-only clearance requirement TC-1 is30in; scaled drawing dimension29in, unscaled photo says looks adequate. TC-1 is not NEC. Building/fire reviewer has an unresolved egress-door issue; electrical plans examiner cannot approve that discipline by assumption.
Reconcile symbols and drawing revisions without releasing the schedule.
Compare the worked reasoning
R2=12+8=20 versus schedule18, discrepancy2. R3=12+10=22, change+2 from R2; unchanged schedule18 differs4. Record both issues and request the controlling revision and schedule reconciliation. A corrected count does not settle electrical design adequacy.
R2=12+8=20 frente a18, diferencia2. R3=12+10=22, cambio+2; cuadro18 difiere4. Registra ambos y pide revisión vigente/conciliación. Conteo corregido no determina adecuación de diseño.

Try an actual studio station: HVAC electrical labels: minimum and maximum mean different things
Learn the method
Read the exact equipment model, voltage/phase and installation instructions before interpreting ratings. MCA means minimum circuit ampacity; MOCP is maximum overcurrent protection. In this fictional paper comparison, the supplied corrected conductor ampacity is compared with MCA, and proposed protective-device rating with MOCP. These are separate checks, not a complete circuit design or motor-overload determination. Actual equipment instructions and adopted special rules govern real installations; electrical scope does not automatically cover every other HVAC discipline.
Fictional packet
Fictional label: MCA 20 A, MOCP 35 A, correct voltage/phase assumed only for arithmetic. Supplied corrected conductor ampacity 25 A; proposed protective device 30 A. Someone says the 30 A number alone proves the conductor and motor-overload design.
Your attempt: Compare the two supplied constraints and name the independent unresolved design questions.
Compare the worked guide
Conductor 25 A is5 A above the supplied 20 A MCA; device 30 A is5 A below the supplied 35 A MOCP. Both limited comparisons meet the given numerical bounds, but neither supplies actual conductor type, terminals, temperature corrections, device type, equipment instructions or motor-overload review. Do not turn the two inequalities into an installation approval.
The included studio adds changed-condition retries, evidence notes and the related career bridge.

Comparación ficticia: ampacidad corregida dada frente a MCA y protección propuesta frente a MOCP.
Fictional preparation exercises. Pair the studio with the relevant project already included in this product. Practical training, accepted experience, credentials and work authority are verified with the responsible providers/employers/agencies; a source job title grants no automatic credit.
