Fictional comparison: Route A has a program description but no current intake date. Route B has an application link but no decision about your eligibility. Which route is confirmed available? Neither is confirmed available. Keep both as questions until the named provider confirms current intake and its decision. Texas Electrical Apprenticeship Directory
Optional paid preparation
For a paid study pack, compare the Texas Electrical Apprenticeship Entry Kit. Buying study materials does not submit an application or establish eligibility, a ranking, admission, employment, a license or permission to perform electrical work.
The official directory below remains free. No purchase is required to use its links.
Start with a route near your intended work area, then check the official application instructions. This guide brings JATC programs, nonunion chapter routes and employer recruitment into one place. It helps you find and compare the next step; the program or employer decides admission and hiring.
Last checked: 2026-10-26. This is a checked selection of entry routes, not a live vacancy feed or a complete list of every Texas provider. Recheck the official page before relying on any opening or deadline. Free access to this guide does not mean the listed programs have no costs.
The retained check date above and the dates on individual cards describe past source checks, not vacancies or open applications today. The October 28, 2026 comparison updates only its three named entries; it does not refresh the rest of this directory. Current availability, deadlines and fees remain unknown until you check the relevant official page.
Eligibility and application windows checked October 29, 2026
This dated update separates the license, training program and employer. For the named entries, its status checks supersede the older cards and October 28 comparison retained below. An application portal or advertised role does not confirm an available seat, an offer or your eligibility. No application was submitted for these checks.
Compare three separate eligibility decisions
Use the named program, not another provider’s rules. Each entry below links to the page checked on 2026-10-29. An unstated requirement remains a question; it is not a waiver. Keep identity and work-authorization records private and use the responsible organization’s current instructions.

If a requirement is missing or you do not meet it
- Missing diploma, GED or transcript: compare IEC Fort Worth’s graduation / GED instructions Checked 2026-10-29. with North Texas’s document and algebra rules Checked 2026-10-29.. Ask which education credential, issuing institution and official delivery method they accept. Ask about GED preparation if you lack an accepted credential; a GED does not by itself settle a separate algebra requirement.
- Missing algebra credit: North Texas’s applicant notice Checked 2026-10-29. names the electrical training Alliance Tech Math course as an alternative for its algebra requirement. Ask that program to confirm acceptance before paying; this is not a blanket rule for other JATCs.
- Not yet eligible for a chosen training route: compare the existing zero-experience employer guide and JMEG’s regional Apprentice / Helper entries Checked 2026-10-29.. Ask about that role’s own documents, schedule and entry conditions. A helper title does not waive licensing or supervision requirements.
- Not yet hired by an IEC contractor: IEC Fort Worth’s self-pay information Checked 2026-10-29. describes a fall-only, online self-pay route outside its DOL-registered employer-sponsored path. Confirm the next intake, full costs and later transfer conditions. It does not promise employment or waive the listed entry requirements.
- Timing or age does not fit: South Texas’s application page Checked 2026-10-29. distinguishes applying at 17 from participating at 18 if selected. Compare another program’s own rules or prepare your missing documents while waiting; do not reuse one program’s age rule elsewhere.
- Commute or identity questions remain: ask the chosen program or employer about the actual jobsite, class location and accepted documents before committing. Use the existing Texas apprentice license guide for separate licensing checks.
Choose preparation, registered training or a direct employer entry
These are different routes, not interchangeable admissions. Published charges below describe only the named item, not the full cost of becoming an electrician.
| Route | Requirements and published costs | Official next check |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-apprenticeship / preparation | North Texas names VEEP and the IBEW-NECA Electrical College as pre-apprenticeship routes associated with direct entry after interview. Their current intake, tuition and any eligibility limits are not posted on this sponsor summary as of 2026-10-29. Check with the program. Official source Checked 2026-10-29. | Use the sponsor notice to ask for the named provider’s official instructions and written entry arrangement before choosing a course. Do not treat the route name as an admission or job offer. Official source Checked 2026-10-29. |
| JATC registered apprenticeship entry | North Texas lists a $20 application fee; Houston lists a separate $30 application fee. These are application charges, not tuition totals or admission decisions. Requirements differ by program. Official source Checked 2026-10-29. Houston application instructions Checked 2026-10-29. | Use the matrix and window checks here, then the chosen program’s own checklist. Houston applications remain closed through October 31, 2026. Official source Checked 2026-10-29. |
| IEC Fort Worth employer-sponsored / self-pay | Employer-sponsored training is described as DOL registered; self-pay is described as not DOL registered and fall-only. The page compares $1,080 employer-sponsored and $3,150 self-pay training costs without a clear billing period in that comparison. Ask for the current written total, books and other charges. Official source Checked 2026-10-29. | Check the correct pathway. A self-pay classroom place is not the employer-sponsored apprenticeship or a job offer. Current dated intake window: Not posted as of 2026-10-29. Official source Checked 2026-10-29. |
| Direct employer application | JMEG advertises Apprentice / Helper openings in named regions; Wattsmith advertises an apprentice role. Both reviewed pages state no experience is required. A preparation-course fee or mandatory prior course is not established by those pages. Official source Checked 2026-10-29. Wattsmith role instructions Checked 2026-10-29. | Check the actual regional role, commute and license requirements. Ask about current hiring and onboarding; a job-page link does not establish that you have been hired. Official source Checked 2026-10-29. |
Preparation-course limits: the two named pre-apprenticeship routes above come from North Texas’s sponsor notice; their own current course fees, intake and complete admission requirements have not been verified here. The TWC apprenticeship page could not be retrieved on 2026-10-29. This comparison does not establish a current statewide preparation-course price list.
Application-window checks by region and target

Keep selection claims in context
The Entry Kit describes interview ranking and an applicant-to-opening ratio for Houston. A current official source, reporting period and verification date for those claims have not been established here. Current ranking rules and competition ratio: unknown. Check the Houston Electrical JATC application instructions for current information. An application link or a practice score does not establish selection, admission or a job offer.
The Entry Kit’s count of 13 programs and six JATCs describes the publisher’s selected historical sample. It is not a statewide proportion or a permanent entry requirement. The complete 13-card comparison has not been verified for this directory. Confirm each program’s current route and requirements separately. The free directory below is a separate selection, not those 13 cards.

Check and filter three application entries
These are source checks made on October 28, 2026, not a live vacancy feed. For these three entries, this newer table supersedes any earlier status label above. An application link is not an admission decision or a confirmed available seat. Reopen the program’s own page before applying. “Unknown” means the reviewed page did not establish the value.
Choose a region, application-page signal, zero-experience signal, waitlist signal or last-check date. The table remains readable if browser filtering is unavailable.
3 entries shown. Opening dates and waitlist places remain unknown until each program confirms them.
| Program and region | Application-page signal | Opening date | Waitlist | Zero experience | Last checked | Official next check |

| North Texas Electrical JATC, Grand Prairie | The application page says applications can be made online. Current intake and available seats: unknown. | Unknown | Unknown | Unknown on this page | 2026-10-28 | Check the North Texas applications page and its current instructions. |

Current intake and available seats: unknown. | Unknown | Unknown | The program says prior electrical experience is not required. For a primary route and backup, save the official link and checked date, then record your own commute, cost and eligibility questions privately. The program or employer decides the application, waitlist and selection outcome. No status in this table grants work permission.
How to check this week’s open status
- Open the official application, admissions or careers link in the entry you selected.
- Look for current words such as Apply Now, Start Application, Current Job Openings, Applications closed, or a dated application window.
- If the page gives only a general program description or sends you to a local chapter without a current window, record Not verified instead of Open.
- Save the date, the exact official URL and one next action; keep admission, hiring and license results pending until the responsible organization confirms them.
Choose a primary route and a backup
- Save two official entries for your intended area. Write down the check date, application status and any missing zero-experience information.
- For each entry, distinguish program enrollment, a contractor referral and a job offer. Leave admission and employment unconfirmed until you have the relevant decision.
- Make a private preparation list from each current official application guide: required document, where to obtain it and an unanswered question. Do not upload private records to a general progress checklist.
- When you return in seven days, reopen the same official pages and update only the fields that have changed. Houston’s closure notice and any unverified intake window deserve a fresh check.
Keep licensing separate from recruitment
TDLR’s licensing and contractor conditions remain separate from program admission or a job offer. Use its apprentice application guide and active license search for official checks. A training-place offer does not by itself establish those conditions. Official source T01 Official source T02 Official source T03 Checked 2026-10-26.
The retained TDLR apprentice application page reviewed on October 28, 2026 does not state an age or education threshold. That omission does not establish that no requirements apply in Texas. Check licensing questions with TDLR and confirm your chosen program’s and employer’s separate age, education and other entry conditions before treating yourself as eligible.
Continue with the existing Texas apprentice license guide. Record application, issued license, employment and supervision as separate states before reviewing a proposed start date.
