How it would work
- Buy the Texas Journeyman Practice Pack with Retake Protection.
- Work through the study plan in the pack: the 10 full timed two-part mocks.
- Take your first PSI attempt at the Texas Journeyman Electrician exam.
- If that attempt does not pass, send us your PSI score report. We pay for your next PSI retake, which costs $78 today.
Draft conditions
We are still setting these. Tell us what works for you by joining the waitlist: the people on it hear the final terms first.
| Condition | Draft |
|---|---|
| Who | Buyers of the Texas Journeyman Practice Pack who choose Retake Protection |
| Exam | The Texas Journeyman Electrician exam given by PSI for TDLR |
| Study plan | All 10 full timed two-part mocks in the pack, completed before your exam date |
| Mock score | An average of at least 75% on each part across your last 3 mocks. The real pass line is 70% on each part. |
| Timing | Your first PSI attempt within 60 days of finishing the plan, inside your one-year TDLR application window |
| Proof | Your PSI score report for that attempt, sent within 30 days of the exam |
| What we pay | Your next PSI retake fee, $78 today, once per person |
The mock score condition is there for a reason. It is the point where your practice results say you are ready, so you book with confidence instead of booking to see what happens.
Why a retake costs more than $78
The fee is the visible part. The PSI candidate bulletin for TDLR electricians, updated September 15, 2026, sets the Journeyman exam fee at $78 for both parts and the retake fee at $78 whether you fail one part or both (PSI bulletin). TDLR lets you retake as many times as you need, but you may pay the exam fee again for each attempt, and you have one year from the date TDLR received your application to meet every requirement, including passing (TDLR exam page).
The numbers behind the fee:
| What TDLR reports | Figure |
|---|---|
| Journeyman NEC Knowledge attempts that passed, fiscal year 2025 | 24.46% of 5,731 |
| Journeyman Calculations attempts that passed, fiscal year 2025 | 20.56% of 6,328 |
| Early Journeyman first attempts that passed, January to March 2026 | 67.23% (119 of 177) |
| Early Journeyman repeat attempts that passed, same period | 19.72% (98 of 497) |
| First attempts that passed, candidates in an apprenticeship program | 83.54% (66 of 79) |
Sources: TDLR exam statistics, fiscal year 2025 and the TDLR advisory board staff report of May 12, 2026. Every figure is also on our Texas electrician license statistics page with its query.
Neither TDLR’s exam page nor the PSI bulletin sets a waiting period between attempts that we could find. A retake still costs time: each one means rebooking with PSI, more weeks of study and a smaller part of your one-year window. Our retake guide lays out a 4-week rebuild after a fail.
Why the study plan is the condition
First attempts pass far more often than repeats, so the first attempt is the one to prepare for. Candidates in an apprenticeship program, who study on a fixed plan, passed 83.54% of first attempts. In the same staff report, repeat takers averaged 13.75 of 24 Calculations points and first-time takers 13.15. Taking the exam again without changing how you study mostly gives the same score. See what the pass rates mean for your exam.
The plan is built on what the pack already has: 10 full timed mocks in the PSI two-part format, a score for each part and each topic area, and step-by-step solutions for every calculation question. Retake Protection asks you to use all of it before you book.
