Short answer: After TDLR approves your application, PSI sends you scheduling instructions by email, or by postcard in the US mail if TDLR has no email for you. You sign in or create an account on PSI’s TDLR page, and your first and last name must match your current, valid, government-issued ID exactly. TDLR also says your name and your ID must match what TDLR has on file, so the name on your TDLR record, your PSI account and your ID must be identical before you book.
Your PSI account gets you a seat. Passing both parts is what that seat is for. The Practice Pack has 10 full timed two-part mocks at the real format, 59 questions in 130 minutes plus 26 in 110 minutes, scored by part and by topic. It also has 299 step-by-step calculation solutions and code-book navigation aids. US$39, one payment.

Three names that must match
| Where your name lives | Who checks it | The rule |
|---|---|---|
| Your TDLR application record | TDLR, then PSI | Your name must match exactly what TDLR has on file |
| Your PSI account | PSI, when you book online | First and last name must match your current, valid, government-issued ID exactly |
| Your government ID | PSI, at check-in | Your ID must match all the information TDLR sent PSI |
A nickname on one, a shortened first name on another, or a last name spelled two ways is enough to cause trouble. Fix it before you pay, not at the front desk. PSI and TDLR do not publish a name-change step on the pages we read, so if the names differ, call PSI at (833) 333-4741 or TDLR at (800) 803-9202 (in state) or (512) 463-6599 and ask what they need from you.
Book the exam: three ways
- Online. Use Sign In/Create Account at PSI’s TDLR scheduling page. Search for a test center by city or postal code, pick a date and time, and pay. You then get a message confirming the test center, date and time.
- Phone. Call PSI at (833) 333-4741 and pay with Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover. Hours are Monday to Friday 6:30 am to 9:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Central Time.
- Mail. Use the registration form at the end of the PSI bulletin. Pay by credit card, money order, company check or cashier’s check made payable to PSI. No cash and no personal checks. Allow 7 business days before you contact PSI to schedule.
The exam fee is $78 for both portions. If you have a question PSI can answer by email, the bulletin cover lists TDLRSupport@psionline.com.
Dates and notices to keep track of
- Your eligibility clock. You have one year from the date TDLR received your application to meet all requirements. If you applied to test early with at least 7,000 hours, you have one year from the application date to submit the rest of your hours.
- Unlimited attempts. You may test an unlimited number of times through your eligibility period, and you may pay an exam fee with each attempt.
- Your email. Giving an email on your TDLR application authorizes TDLR to send notices by email. Without an email on file, the PSI scheduling notice comes as a postcard, so watch your mailbox.
- Your results. PSI sends all exam results to TDLR electronically, which is one more reason the name on both records has to be the same.

Tick each item only when you have confirmed it. The three name items are the ones that stop people at check-in.
- TDLR approval email or postcard received
- Name on my TDLR record written down exactly as TDLR has it
- PSI account first and last name typed exactly as on that TDLR record
- My government ID shows the same first and last name
- An email address is on file with TDLR, so notices reach me
- The one-year date from when TDLR received my application is on my calendar

What if my PSI account name does not match my ID?
PSI requires your first and last name to match your current, valid, government-issued ID exactly, and TDLR requires the same match with its record. Call PSI at (833) 333-4741 or TDLR before you book, because PSI and TDLR do not publish a name-change step on the pages we read.
