Free Texas lineworker route guide
Additional Lineworker Rescue, Safety and CDL Training Entries
Optional paid planning guide
Review the Storm & Travel Work Guide if you are considering that separate purchase. Read its product description and current checkout terms before deciding. A purchase is not field training, an employer assessment or permission to perform linework. This free page does not require a purchase or membership.
Free provider and evidence guide
The existing training directory covers SWLCAT, TSTC lineworker studies and NLC Texas. Use the additional entries below when you need an explicitly named rescue, specialist training or CDL provider route. These are provider entries to verify, not instructions for performing the work.
This site does not provide field training or grant field authorization. Climbing, rescue and electrical practice belong in a program with qualified supervision, equipment and the responsible provider’s approval. A course listing does not authorize a field task.
School route: SLTC Electrical Lineworker Program
SLTC lists climbing, safety training, first aid/CPR and pole-top/bucket-truck rescue among its Electrical Lineworker Program skills and certifications; its campus address is in Trenton, Georgia. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
SLTC admissions lists high-school completion or equivalent documentation, a DOT physical, a valid driver license, and a minimum age of 18 at enrollment. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
This is an out-of-state comparison in Georgia, not a Texas campus. Use the program and admissions links together. Ask the school which current class and practical assessments cover climbing, rescue and safety, who supervises them, and what student injury coverage applies. The pages checked do not establish a seat or a Texas employer’s acceptance of your training. Do not infer a Texas license or job from school completion.
Employer-led specialist route: SLTC Advanced Industry Training
SLTC Advanced Industry Training lists live-line training, climbing fundamentals, bucket-truck training and hurtman rescue; this is a workforce training entry, not evidence that a beginner has a place or is authorized for live work. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Use this entry with your employer or training coordinator for a named rescue or specialist requirement. Ask for the exact course, trainee prerequisites, location, supervision, practical assessment and employer recognition. Confirm whether an individual beginner can enroll. Keep specialist live-line training separate from entry-school preparation and from an employer’s permission for a particular task. No operating technique is taught on this page.
CDL provider route: TSTC Professional Driving Academy
TSTC Professional Driving Academy offers Class A CDL training. Its page lists a drug-screen copy, medical examination certificate and driving record among admissions requirements. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Use the Academy’s official Apply Now and admissions entries. Confirm campus, class date, applicable packet, vehicle class and restrictions, behind-the-wheel arrangements and registry listing for the actual service. This is a separate program from TSTC lineworker enrollment already in the earlier directory. The page checked does not establish your booked place or completion of a driving test. Use the existing CDL and FMCSA check below before committing.
Build an employer-recognized competence record
O*NET lists installing, maintaining and repairing distribution and transmission systems, inspecting and testing lines and auxiliary equipment, identifying defective devices with diagrams and test instruments, and installing underground cable. Convert those categories into evidence requests, not self-issued field qualifications. Official O*NET source Checked 2026-10-27.
| Competence area | Required confirmation | Acceptable record |
|---|---|---|
| Overhead | Employer or program identifies the authorized task and supervisor. | Dated task category, supervisor and accepted assessment. |
| Underground | Employer or program identifies the cable, conduit or equipment scope used in training. | Dated scope and accepted assessment. |
| Equipment installation | The responsible reviewer records which installation category was observed. | Checklist name, reviewer and correction status. |
| Testing | The employer identifies the approved instrument and testing assignment. | Training or assessment record without operating instructions. |
| Troubleshooting | A paper scenario separates symptoms, possible causes and authorized next checks. | Reviewed scenario and unresolved items. |
| Restoration | The employer records the assigned role, sequence owner and completion evidence. | Employer-controlled evaluation or work record. |
Use one record for each competence area
Use the six areas in the table above as an index. Copy these fields onto paper or into your own file for each area. Keep an unverified field as UNKNOWN and an unanswered review request as PENDING. These are personal planning notes; this page does not save, export or submit them.
- Area and scope
- Overhead / underground / equipment installation / testing / troubleshooting / restoration; the exact task or paper scenario being discussed: ______.
- Evidence reference
- Record title or reference, date and issuer: ______. Evidence type: personal reading, paper practice, provider training record or employer assessment: ______.
- Your role and limits
- What the record actually shows, and what it does not show: ______. Employer-controlled hours reference, if available: ______; otherwise UNKNOWN. Do not invent hours or copy confidential job details.
- Review owner and status
- Responsible employer or program reviewer: ______. Review requested on: ______. Actual response reference: ______ or PENDING. No response is not acceptance.
- Correction and next review
- Missing evidence or correction requested: ______. Who can resolve it: ______. Follow-up date: ______. Keep the item open until there is an actual response.
Fictional example: paper review only. Area: overhead. Evidence: a personal outline of the categories in the table, with no work record attached. Hours: UNKNOWN. Employer reviewer: UNKNOWN. Review response: PENDING. Next step: ask the employer or program which evidence it accepts. Result: an open evidence request, not demonstrated overhead competence or a completed field task.
Keep personal completion and practice scores separate from provider records, employer sign-off and any licensing decision. A job title, purchase or membership does not fill a missing evidence field. Do not perform a task to fill this worksheet.
Reading this table does not prove competence. Climbing, testing, grounding, switching, rescue and restoration tasks must stay inside qualified supervision, employer training and written task authorization.
Keep one qualified-employee safety evidence set
OSHA 1910.269 requires a job briefing before work and identifies hazards, work procedures, special precautions, energy-source controls and PPE as briefing subjects. The same standard addresses qualified-employee training, voltage testing before protective grounds, live-line tool condition and rescue-related training. Official OSHA source Checked 2026-10-27.
| Control | Evidence question | Record owner |
|---|---|---|
| Job briefing | Dated employer briefing record with the job, hazards, procedures, precautions, energy controls and PPE fields. | Employer record or training assessment. |
| Qualified-employee scope | Task-specific training, demonstrated ability and the responsible supervisor are identified. | Employer qualification or training record. |
| Voltage testing and grounding | The employer’s approved procedure, equipment and authorization are referenced, not reproduced here. | Training record and task authorization. |
| Live-line tools | Inspection, care and test status are recorded under the employer’s program. | Tool or training record controlled by the employer. |
| Rescue | Applicable emergency and rescue training status is current for the assigned setting. | Provider or employer training record. |
Record the safety questions that still need an answer
This is a paper preparation aid for discussion with the responsible employer or training provider. Use one entry for each control in the table above: job briefing, qualified-employee scope, voltage testing and grounding, live-line tools, and rescue. Record a reference to employer-controlled documents; do not recreate an operating procedure here.
- Control and assignment
- Control being discussed: ______. Named assignment or training setting: ______ or UNKNOWN.
- Evidence and owner
- Employer or provider record reference: ______. Responsible person or department: ______ or UNKNOWN. Recorded training or document date: ______. Applicable review or renewal date: ______ or UNKNOWN; do not assume a generic validity period.
- Open question
- What remains unconfirmed about scope, training, supervision or emergency coverage: ______.
- Actual response
- Response date and reference: ______ or PENDING. Missing answers remain open; do not write a supervisor response on someone else’s behalf.
- Decision to record
- Needs clarification / referred to employer or provider / employer response received: ______. A received response is not automatically task authorization.
Fictional example: unresolved rescue coverage. An imagined assignment has no identified rescue-training record or responsible contact. Record the evidence as UNKNOWN and the request as PENDING. Stop and seek the responsible employer’s direction; do not attempt a rescue exercise or field task to resolve the missing record. No supervisor reply or authorization is assumed.
If the assignment, conditions or responsible contact are unclear, stop and ask the responsible employer or training provider. Reading this guide, passing a private practice check, buying a guide or joining a membership does not establish qualified-employee status. This site does not provide a practical assessment, employer sign-off, license, job, course place or field authorization.
Do not use this page as a field procedure. The employer decides qualification, assignment, tools, energy controls, PPE, rescue coverage and authorization for the actual job.
Compare the missing training, not a course label
| Need | Evidence to obtain |
|---|---|
| Climbing and safety | Current practical syllabus, supervisor role, equipment provision and assessment. |
| Rescue | Which rescue setting the course covers, supervised practice, assessment record and employer acceptance. |
| Energized work | Employer-approved prerequisite route, training scope, assessment and separate task-authorization decision. |
| CDL | Actual license class, restriction target, provider record, training completion and State testing steps. |
Mark an unlisted syllabus, individual admission condition, insurance term or employer acceptance as not established. Bring the missing training question to the responsible provider, rather than attempting unsupervised practice.
