YOUR ROUTE INTO A HELPER ROLE
Bring your experience. Build your helper skills.
43 desk lessons, from fractions and electrical concepts to drawings, materials and a clear handoff. Each lesson gives you a worked example, a changed problem and questions to take into supervised training.

Study the seven core electrical skills, two guided scenarios and ten practice worksheets alongside these helper lessons. Your saved results stay in your account. Download lesson notes as TXT before leaving, reloading or changing language; bring the file to your next session.
Online study and supervised field practice work together. These lessons prepare your reasoning and questions; your employer or training provider teaches and assesses actual physical tasks.
Choose your next helper task
Start with the free fractions lesson (M01). Then pick the task in front of you, and come back when that task changes.
Apply truthfully. Leave with a truthful helper-application draft and an hours record that keeps work, study and accepted experience apart.
Role and license · Application draft · Hours record
Check: license, employment and supervision stay separate; the draft names a backup route and next action.
Prepare for day one. Leave with a day-one message requesting task-specific PPE direction and emergency contact details, plus a repeat-back of your assignment.
PPE questions · Emergency contact · Repeat-back
Check: your repeat-back names task, location and document, and keeps the excluded actions.
Hand off a drawing count. Leave with a paper material count tied to a named drawing revision, and a handoff note another person can act on.
Drawing revisions · Material takeoff · Handoff note
Check: counts trace to room and type, and unresolved items show a decision owner.
Rework a case, organize a paper folder. Explain why the first attempt went wrong, then organize a paper folder of your study notes, practice records and questions still to confirm.
Fractions (free) · Changed attempt · Entry folder
Check: you name the cause of the error and a concrete next assessment.
Use the public helper guide and practice cases alongside these lessons. The full fractions lesson is free; sign in with ET Member to open the member lessons. Your employer or training provider teaches and assesses physical tasks.

Plan the supervised part of your learning
Use these desk lessons alongside hands-on instruction through your employer or training provider. Ask what you will practise, who will supervise and how performance will be assessed:
- Hand and power tools: identification, condition checks, appropriate use and maintenance.
- Raceways, supports, boxes and conductors: layout, bending, preparation, pulling and fitting tasks assigned to your role.
- Connections and quality: preparation, tightening requirements, inspection and review of actual work.
- Test instruments: suitable category and accessories, condition, authorized use and interpretation.
- Site safety: PPE, access, materials handling, the applicable energy-control role and emergency arrangements.
Keep study, observed demonstration, supervised practice and assessed performance separate in your own records. Record the specific task and reviewer role rather than awarding yourself general competence.
Practice comparing Texas training routes; actual admission, availability and training are confirmed by the named provider or employer.
How this study route is organized
The lesson map draws on the published topic areas in NCCER Core and Electrical Level 1, O*NET helper work, and the official Texas and OSHA sources linked in the lessons. It is an independent study route, not an NCCER course, credential or substitute for an apprenticeship.
Choose the lesson for your next task. Review its prerequisites, explain the first case, compare the guide, try the changed case and keep your next-step note. A finished paper exercise is study evidence, not a license or field-competence assessment.
