Texas Journeyman Exam Accommodations: How to Ask PSI Early

Updated About 4 min read

Short answer: You request exam accommodations through PSI, the exam vendor for TDLR. All PSI test centers provide ADA access, and a candidate with a disability, or who would otherwise have difficulty taking the exam, asks for alternative arrangements on PSI’s accommodations form. You have one year from the date TDLR received your application to meet all licensing requirements, including passing the exam. Ask PSI directly how to coordinate your accommodations request with scheduling.

The arrangement gets you a fair room; the exam is still two timed parts. While you work through PSI’s process, you can prepare for the exam itself. The Practice Pack has 10 full timed two-part mocks, a score by part and by topic, 299 step-by-step calculation solutions and a printable workbook PDF. US$39, one payment.

TDLR’s exam page says it plainly: accommodations are requested through PSI. Sending a request to TDLR alone does not set anything up at the test center.

How to ask, step by step

  1. Open Candidate Information Bulletin 1682 and read the accommodations section for how to request alternative arrangements. Use PSI’s accommodations form and follow its submission instructions. The bulletin link is in the sources below.
  2. Write down what you need in plain words: what is hard for you on a timed computer exam and what arrangement would help.
  3. Read the form’s instructions. If you are unsure what documentation your request needs, ask PSI at (833) 333-4741 before you submit it.
  4. Check your name. Your name must exactly match TDLR’s record, and your PSI account name must match your government ID.
  5. Submit the form the way PSI’s instructions say, and keep a copy with the date you sent it.
  6. Ask PSI how the arrangement fits with booking your date and time, so the two line up.
  7. Protect your fee. To cancel or reschedule without losing your exam fee, PSI must receive your notice through its website or by phone at least 2 days before the appointment. For a Monday exam, give notice by Saturday. Voicemail and email do not count.

If you cannot provide the required ID, contact PSI at least 3 weeks before the exam, as the bulletin directs.

  • I know to cancel or reschedule by web or phone at least 2 days ahead

How do I request accommodations for the Texas journeyman electrician exam?

Use PSI’s accommodations form. Candidate Information Bulletin 1682 explains the accommodations process. TDLR says accommodations are requested through PSI. If anything on the form is unclear, ask PSI before you submit it, and ask how the request fits with booking your date.

Do all PSI test centers in Texas have ADA access?

PSI’s bulletin says all PSI centers provide ADA access. If you need anything beyond access to the building, such as a different arrangement during the exam, ask through the PSI form.

Can I take the Texas journeyman exam outside Texas?

The same PSI form used for accommodations also covers out-of-state testing requests. Submit it through PSI and confirm your test location before you make travel plans.
