Free Texas lineworker route guide
More Texas Lineworker Entry Points: Utility, Co-op, Groundman and School
Add these entries to your existing Texas application shortlist. The earlier directory already covers SWLCAT, PEC, South Plains Electric, Oncor and TSTC enrollment. This supplement adds other official starting points and a local SWLCAT gateway, not another copy of that checklist. All observations below were checked on October 26, 2026.
Status labels describe the public page checked. A careers link or recruitment pool is not a confirmed open beginner job. Reopen the exact official posting before relying on requirements or submitting records through the organization.
Utility: Austin Energy
Austin Energy directs current job seekers to the City of Austin careers website and identifies a lineworker-program enquiry route. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Status: official careers entry available; a specific beginner vacancy, requisition and closing date were not established from this landing page. Follow its City of Austin job link and search the exact helper or apprentice classification. Required documents are not listed on this landing page; confirm with the employer for the selected requisition. Do not substitute another utility’s document list.
Co-op: Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative
Bluebonnet describes year-round apprentice recruiting and applications on the first Tuesday of each month into a candidate pool. This is not proof of a current vacancy. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Status: published recurring recruitment process; a seat or open requisition on the check date is not established here. Follow Search for apprentice candidate positions from the official careers page. Required documents are not itemized in the public apprentice summary; confirm the checklist for the live opening. A place in the application pool and a job offer are separate milestones.
Joint apprenticeship: IBEW Local 66 gateway to SWLCAT
IBEW Local 66 provides an official SWLCAT apprenticeship entry and Apply Now link. Its listed qualifications include Class A CDL, DOT medical card and age 18 or older. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Status: official local gateway and application link available; an intake place or deadline is not confirmed. This leads to the same SWLCAT program already covered by the earlier directory, not a second apprenticeship. The local page names the CDL and DOT medical card but does not give a complete upload checklist. Continue with SWLCAT’s actual instructions and resolve its document-delivery wording before sending records.
Groundman: Local 66 classification and Pike careers
IBEW Local 66 describes Groundman as an entry-level Outside Construction classification. The public page does not verify a current job call or upload checklist. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Pike careers displays Groundman openings and official application links. The landing-page capture did not establish a particular Texas requisition, closing date or required-document checklist. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Status: Local 66 provides a classification entry; Pike provides a broader hiring entry. Neither observation establishes a current Texas beginner job for you. For Local 66, identify the current official referral or application process; for Pike, filter to Texas and open the exact Groundman requisition. The captured pages do not itemize required uploads for a particular Texas role; confirm with the employer or local for that role. Keep Groundman employment separate from apprenticeship registration and credit.
School: Kilgore College Electric Power Technology
Kilgore lists its Overton training grounds, an application entry, a deadline marked TBD, and prerequisites including WorkKeys assessments, Class A CDL permit, DOT physical, transcripts and proof of health insurance, subject to space. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Status: the program page says applications are open for the next class, but it marks the deadline TBD and conditions registration on space and prerequisites. Use the KCEPT registration entry on that page. Prepare only the listed evidence that applies to you; confirm the assessment results, permit, physical, transcript delivery and insurance proof format with the program. The page does not establish a reserved place or a confirmed new start date for your application.
Choose a reachable next action
Pick two entries that fit your location and route. For each, save the official URL, date, exact program or requisition, application status, stated qualifications, documents actually listed, delivery method and missing answer. Recheck immediately before acting. Keep identity, medical and driving records private and provide them only through the organization’s current official process. This page collects no applications and promises no hiring result.
Verify these fields before paying or applying
Checked on 2026-10-26. Use the named official page for the specific program or employer. If a detail is absent, record “Official page does not list it” and confirm with that organization.
| Field | Where to verify | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Admission or application documents | The named program admissions page or employer posting | Required document, issuer, and accepted format |
| Start date or capacity | The current official cohort or posting page | Date and seats, or “Official page does not list it” |
| Total cost | The official tuition and fee document or employer posting | Tuition, mandatory fees, equipment, travel, and what is excluded |
| CDL and ELDT | The target posting plus FMCSA ELDT | Class, endorsement, deadline, and whether ELDT applies |
| DOT medical certificate | FMCSA medical requirements plus the target posting | When required and who accepts the certificate |
| Employer drug screen or physical ability test | The target employer or sponsor posting | Requirement and timing, or “Official page does not list it” |
A completed checklist is a research record. It is not admission, employer approval, a license, or permission to perform a task.
