Texas Lineworker Applications: Official Apprenticeship, Co-op and Utility Entries
Use this directory to reach the sponsor, cooperative or utility directly. Check the exact classification before preparing an application: an apprentice title can still require earlier apprenticeship experience.
Checked October 26, 2026. Entries and job listings can change. A working careers page does not establish that an entry-level vacancy is open. Submit documents only through the organization's own current instructions; this page collects no applications.
Free comparison: six lineworker career directions
Compare utility, co-op, contractor, storm, troubleman and specialist options by the actual destination role. Use three questions: Who would employ you? What assignment are you considering? What role and scope would that employer accept you for? These are comparison lenses, not a fixed promotion ladder.
A move between employers, a storm assignment and a change in duties need separate checks. Acceptance by your present employer does not establish acceptance by a receiving employer. Keep each destination’s recognition question open until that employer answers it.
What is still unknown? Current vacancies, intake dates, pay, overtime, allowances, travel schedules and employer acceptance are UNKNOWN unless established for the specific posting or written offer. The directory below retains its October 26, 2026 check dates; those observations are not a promise that a vacancy remains open.
1. Utility: compare a named employer and requisition
Use the Oncor careers entry below as an employer-search starting point. It does not establish a current journey-level opening. Record the exact title, location and requisition, then ask which journey-level evidence the receiving team will review. Check the written schedule, reporting location, callout expectations and any travel before comparing it with your present role.
Move to evaluate: your current employer to a particular utility role. Keep eligibility, recognition and the offer separate; none follows automatically from having the same occupation title.
2. Co-op: compare each cooperative’s actual classification
The PEC and South Plains Electric Cooperative entries below give you named cooperative search points. Compare their actual postings rather than treating all lineworker titles as equivalent. The PEC Apprentice 3 posting retained below required Level 2 completion on the October 26 check date; it is not evidence of a zero-experience opening or of journey-level acceptance.
Move to evaluate: utility or contractor work to a specific co-op role, or a move between co-ops. Ask which classification and evidence apply to you, who reviews them, and what location, schedule and written terms apply.
3. Contractor: identify the employer, assignment and terms
For a contractor opportunity, record the hiring employer separately from the client or work location. Ask which role, project area and completion evidence the employer will accept. Compare travel, lodging, benefits and any written agreement for that opportunity; do not copy a utility or co-op offer’s terms into the contractor column.
Move to evaluate: a named utility or co-op role to a named contractor role, or the reverse. A current contractor vacancy and its acceptance criteria are UNKNOWN here. Use the official opportunity search below to find a starting point, then read the employer’s own posting.
4. Storm: compare a proposed assignment and its exit
Compare storm work as a proposed assignment, separately from the employer and occupation title. Before deciding, record the written reporting and release terms, days away, lodging, travel costs and home commitments. Keep base pay, overtime, storm overtime, per diem, travel reimbursement and your own costs on separate lines. An allowance is not evidence of a guaranteed net income.
Move to evaluate: a current role to a particular storm assignment, including whether and how you would return afterward. Future work, assignment duration, earnings and return arrangements remain UNKNOWN until supported by the relevant written terms. A storm assignment does not itself establish a permanent job or a new qualification.
5. Troubleman: compare the role behind the title
O*NET includes Troubleman among reported titles for electrical power-line installers and repairers. That title alone does not establish a particular employer’s duties, response schedule or qualification requirements. Ask the receiving employer for the actual scope, evidence it recognizes, training requirements, reporting chain and task-authorization boundary.
Move to evaluate: your present lineworker role to a specific Troubleman posting. Treat it as a role review rather than automatic advancement. Employer-specific duties, available positions and acceptance remain UNKNOWN here.
6. Specialist: name the specialty before comparing it
Do not rank a generic “specialist” label against a concrete job. Write the exact specialty and destination role from the posting, the equipment or work scope it names, and the training or evidence the receiving employer requests. Ask which of your existing records it will review and which gaps require additional supervised training.
Move to evaluate: your current role to that named specialty. The employer’s definition, acceptance requirements and current openings are UNKNOWN until verified for that role. Previous journey-level recognition is not proof of authorization for a new scope. If the role or authorization is unclear, pause the decision and seek clarification from the responsible employer or qualified supervisor.
Compare two real destinations before choosing a move
- Name both destinations. For each, keep the employer, role, location, posting or requisition, official URL and date checked together. For storm work, also identify the proposed assignment. Do not replace missing details with another employer’s answer.
- Map the evidence gap. List your existing completion records, the receiving employer’s recognition question, the person or team that would review them, and any stated training requirement. Keep “my record exists” separate from “the receiving employer accepted it.” If no answer exists, mark recognition pending.
- Compare time and written terms. Record schedule, days away, lodging, travel, base pay, overtime, allowances and your own costs separately. Missing terms stay UNKNOWN; do not estimate a headline income to fill the gap.
- Choose a next check, not a guaranteed outcome. Identify the one unanswered question that prevents the move. Keep any request as a private, unsent draft until you choose to contact the official organization. Check the applicable work permission for the actual role and location before starting.
Keep this comparison privately on paper or in your own file. This page does not collect, save, export or send it. Completing it is a personal planning step, not employer sign-off, a score, a license, a job offer or permission to perform field work. Buying a resource or holding membership does not change those boundaries.

Official apprenticeship and hiring entries
1. SWLCAT: program application entry
The SWLCAT lineman page links to Apply Online and lists a minimum age of 18, Class A CDL, a completed application, EEOC acknowledgement, work history, a Medical Examiner's Certificate, DD214 if applicable, and an ETA aptitude test before interview. It gives a post-indenture period for removing a manual restriction. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
SWLCAT's FAQ says a permit or temporary license does not meet its lineman interview CDL requirement. The same FAQ contains both mailed-transcript processing language and a statement that documents no longer need mailing, so confirm the current document route with SWLCAT. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Prepare the listed application information and applicable documents. Use the public program page as the entry to its official application service. Confirm the area and intake window, the full current checklist and how to deliver any transcript. Do not mail records based on one conflicting FAQ sentence. No next intake date was established from these pages.
2. Pedernales Electric Cooperative: lineworker jobs
PEC's official lineworker category page showed apprentice and journeyworker listings on the check date. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
The Kyle Lineworker Apprentice 3 posting states that it is open until filled. It lists a high school diploma or equivalent, completion of DOL-approved Apprentice Level 2 requirements, and driver eligibility under PEC policy. It does not itemize an application upload checklist. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Entry for a beginner: monitor the category page for an appropriate starting classification. The observed Apprentice 3 role requires Level 2 completion, so do not treat it as a zero-experience opening. Required upload documents are not listed on the official posting; confirm with PEC for the exact role before applying. Use the category link above or open the source posting for details.
3. South Plains Electric Cooperative: careers and listed positions
South Plains Electric Cooperative's careers page listed a Lineman position in Childress and states that it accepts applications only when positions are available. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Use the official careers page and the link attached to the position. The page checked did not specify whether this line role accepts a beginner or itemize required documents. The official page does not list those documents; confirm them with the cooperative for that vacancy. Do not infer apprentice eligibility from the word Lineman.
4. Oncor: utility careers entry
Oncor's careers page provides experienced-professional and early-career entries, a job-postings link, and operations career information. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Start at the official careers page, choose the relevant career entry and check the actual posting. No particular beginner lineworker vacancy or closing date was verified here. Required documents are not listed on this careers landing page; confirm with Oncor for the chosen requisition. Save the job title, location and requisition before preparing records.
School admission is a separate route
TSTC: official enrollment steps
TSTC's enrollment steps describe valid ID, an applicable meningitis record and official high school/GED and college transcripts. The page says official transcripts cannot be uploaded through the Applicant Portal and lists separate delivery options. Additional program steps may apply. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Use the linked enrollment instructions for document applicability, accepted ID and transcript delivery, then confirm the lineworker-specific checklist with the enrollment coach. Follow the training directory to compare the actual campus and intake. College enrollment and an employer application are separate decisions.
Prepare one application record per organization
Suggested record: official entry, exact program or requisition, location, date checked, open/closed/not established, qualification you meet, qualification still missing, required document, delivery instruction and unanswered question. Keep personal records private. Do not upload ID, medical or military documents to a directory or an unofficial recruiter.

Find more official apprenticeship opportunities
Apprenticeship.gov directs career seekers to find an opportunity and apply directly to the employer or program sponsor. Official source Checked 2026-10-26.
Search for lineworker, groundman or apprentice and Texas or a location you can reach. Read the sponsor's actual criteria before deciding whether to prepare a school application, driver training or a job application. Keep a reminder to recheck your shortlist before relying on an older listing.
Verify these fields before paying or applying
Checked on 2026-10-26. Use the named official page for the specific program or employer. If a detail is absent, record “Official page does not list it” and confirm with that organization.
| Field | Where to verify | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Admission or application documents | The named program admissions page or employer posting | Required document, issuer, and accepted format |
| Start date or capacity | The current official cohort or posting page | Date and seats, or “Official page does not list it” |
| Total cost | The official tuition and fee document or employer posting | Tuition, mandatory fees, equipment, travel, and what is excluded |
| CDL and ELDT | The target posting plus FMCSA ELDT | Class, endorsement, deadline, and whether ELDT applies |
| DOT medical certificate | FMCSA medical requirements plus the target posting | When required and who accepts the certificate |
| Employer drug screen or physical ability test | The target employer or sponsor posting | Requirement and timing, or “Official page does not list it” |
A completed checklist is a research record. It is not admission, employer approval, a license, or permission to perform a task.
