Electrician to Electrical Inspector in Texas: Resume, Onboarding and Sign-Off Record
Inspector postings ask for an electrician license, years of experience and an ICC certification on a deadline. This record helps you show that evidence on a resume, then track your first months so you know what you may sign and what you may not do alone yet.
This is a blank, non-authoritative template. The employer decides hiring, pay and training, and the local jurisdiction decides inspection authority. Nothing here grants authority or promises pay or a job. Official forms, sign-off sheets and authority letters come from the employer or the jurisdiction, never from this page.
Resume example: senior electrician moving to inspector
Two city postings read on 2026-10-29 spell out what is required now and what you earn after hire. The El Paso Electrical Inspector posting asks for two years of journey level, master or supervisory electrician experience, a Journey or Master Electrician license at the time of application, ICC Commercial Electrical Inspector certification within one year of appointment, and a Texas Class C driver’s license or the equivalent from another state. The San Antonio Electrical Inspector posting asks for four years in the electrical trade or in electrical inspections, a TDLR Journeyman or Master license, a Class C license, and ICC Electrical Inspector certification within one year of employment.
El Paso also says it checks minimum qualifications from the employment history on the application, not from a resume. Put the same evidence lines in the application itself.
Fictional example, no real person. Replace every blank with your own facts, and never claim a license, certification or duty you cannot prove.
| Requirement line | Weak resume line | Evidence line (fictional example) | Proof the employer can check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Journey or Master license at application | Licensed electrician | Texas Journeyman Electrician license, active since ________________ | License number on the TDLR license search |

Posted pay and wage data: compare, do not assume
Ranges as posted, not a promise. These are the ranges each posting showed when we read it on 2026-10-29. A past range does not set the pay for the next vacancy, and a posting past its closing date is closed even if the page still loads.
| Employer and role | Job number | Pay as posted | Closing date | Status on 2026-10-29 |

Wider wage data. BLS Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics, May 2025, occupation 47-4011 Construction and Building Inspectors. This code counts all building inspectors, not only electrical inspectors.

| Texas | 18,230 | $64,810 |
| Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington | 5,450 | $69,020 |
| Houston-Pasadena-The Woodlands | 4,980 | $66,780 |
| San Antonio-New Braunfels | 1,450 | $62,110 |
| Austin-Round Rock-San Marcos | 1,430 | $77,730 |
This data has no 2023 or 2024 values for these series, so there is no year over year trend here. Build your own history: each time you read a posting, add a row.

Training schedule for your first months
The employer sets the schedule. Ask your supervisor to fill this with you in the first week, so a vague ride-along becomes a plan you can check.
| Course or ride-along | Trainer | Start date | End date | Hours | Status | Inspection types it unlocks |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |

Find the code you will enforce: a lookup in four steps
This is a way to look it up, not a list of amendments. Check each step again before your first inspection call.
- State code: TDLR adopted the 2026 National Electrical Code as the Texas electrical code, effective September 1, 2026 (TDLR notice).
- City code: find the ordinance your city adopted, on the city building department page or in the municipal code. Write down the NEC edition it names and its effective date.
- Regional amendments: many North Central Texas cities start from the NCTCOG recommended regional amendments. NCTCOG lists a 2026 NEC set and encourages local adoption; an amendment applies only where your city’s ordinance adopts it.
- Interpretations: ask who answers code questions in your office and how the answers are recorded.
| City | Ordinance number | NEC edition | Amendment link | Date checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
Our guide to which NEC edition applies: the Texas exam, the state code and your local inspector explains why these can differ.
Printable onboarding checklist: what you may do alone
Sort every item into one of three columns, and move it only when your supervisor confirms in writing. The checklist records what the employer decided; it grants nothing by itself.
| Item | Authorized: date and appointing official | Pending verification: what is missing | Not allowed alone yet: who must be present |
|---|---|---|---|
| Appointment record | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| Inspection type: residential | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| Inspection type: commercial | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| Inspection type: service changes | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| Issuing corrections or failing an inspection | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| Training done or pending | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ICC certification due date (for example within one year of appointment, if your posting says so) | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| Vehicle use or driver’s license check | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
Verification status log: keep the first entry, add new rows
A ticked box on a practice checklist is not an appointment. An item moves to authorized only when the employer or the jurisdiction confirms it in writing. Never edit or erase an earlier row. When a status changes, add a new row, so the original date and source stay visible.
| Item | Status | Date of this entry | Source: document, email or notice, and its date | Who confirmed: name and role | Replaces the entry dated |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
Use one of four statuses:
- Practice only: you studied, observed or rehearsed it. It grants nothing.
- Pending verification: you asked, and the written answer has not arrived.
- Confirmed in writing: you hold the notice, email or form that grants it, and you wrote its date in the Source column.
- Withdrawn or changed: a later notice narrowed or removed it. Keep the old row and add this one below it.
If you print this page, date each paper copy. Your newest copy does not replace the official record kept by the employer or the jurisdiction.
Sign-off authority, versions and handover
Official forms come from the city or employer. This page is a personal record only: it keeps a dated trail of what you were allowed to sign, which version you used and who took over each open case.
| Document | Version | Date | Who may sign | Who signed | What changed | Handover from or to |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
| ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ | ________________ |
